Kia Tika Kia Pono For a Just Society
In Aotearoa, we know very well what our most pressing problems are, poverty, inequity, ecological destruction, and climate change. But we are much less sure about the pathways out of these crises, pathways that will lead us to a socially, economically and ecologically just society.

Te Awarua o Porirua Harbour Clean-Up
Join us for the Te Awarua o Porirua Harbour, Streams & Coastal Clean Up and help protect the waterways that connect our community. This is a great opportunity to give back, connect with others, and support the health of our environment.
When: Wednesday 29 April 2026 ; 12pm – 2pm
Where: Harbourside next to Kai Tahi, 20 Parumoana Street, Porirua
Wet weather date: Thursday 30 April; 12pm - 3pm
This is a free community event – all equipment will be provided, including hi-vis, gloves, bags, and BBQ kai.
Just bring a water bottle, dress for the weather, and wear comfortable clothes and shoes (or gumboots) you don’t mind getting a bit wet or dirty.
If we look after our wai, our wai will look after us!
TE REO A TŪ NATIONAL SYMPOSIUM
We have funding available to support five iwi members to attend the Te Reo a Tū National Symposium, taking place in the Bay of Plenty from Friday 27 March to Sunday 29 March.
Te Reo ā Tū – National Mau Rākau Symposium 2026 is a powerful two-day wānanga celebrating the living art of mau rākau, the discipline, language, and wairua of Tūmatauenga.

Democratic Resilience and Transparency
This is a meeting of influential thinkers from various backgrounds to share ideas about how to ensure our democracy is preserved and enhanced.
With themes including participation, Pacific democracy, open government, inclusion and cohesion, access to power, and the democratic process this will focus on the issues that really matter in protecting our democratic framework in an increasing threatened environment.
With three prominent keynote speakers and six panel discussions this is sure to be a stimulating and provocative discussion. It will also be a great opportunity to network with others who are interested in democracy in New Zealand and the world.

Aukati ki te Whaiao
AUKATI ki te whaiao is a powerful response to the ongoing impacts of colonisation. For generations, colonisation has shaped and scarred the lives of Ngāti Toa, Māori, Indigenous peoples, and our taiao, disrupting relationships, identity, wellbeing, and the balance of our natural world.
This exhibition delves deeper into those histories — the loss, the resilience, and the enduring strength of our people. It highlights not only the ways in which colonisation has affected us, but also the unwavering determination of Ngāti Toa to reclaim what was disrupted.

Mutumutu ki Mukukai
On Saturday 6 December, from 6.00am – 8.00am, we will officially open our brand-new Waterways Exhibition, Mutumutu ki Mukukai: Freshwater to Saltwater, at Pātaka Museum — and we warmly welcome our whānau to stand with us as we open this gallery for the very first time.
This significant kaupapa honours our enduring relationship with wai, tracing the stories, histories, and lifeforce of our waterways as they flow across our rohe from the mountains to the moana. The exhibition reflects our role as kaitiaki, the intergenerational knowledge carried by our people, and the shared responsibility we hold to protect and restore the health of our freshwater and saltwater environments.

Dreaming of weaving a kākahu — a taonga for your whānau and future generations? Join our mātanga kaiwhatu o Te Tauihu for five weekend wānanga and learn the art of whatu kākahu: from harvesting harakeke and preparing whenu, to weaving your own kākahu taonga.
This is a whānau journey, we Are asking for at least two whānau per piece. Bring your kai and commitment.

Pāuatahanui Inlet 2025 Cockle Survey
Whānau mā, come and join us as we tautoko this important kaupapa!
Be part of this year’s Cockle Survey and help us look after the health of our beautiful Pāuatahanui Inlet. Together, we’ll count and measure cockles on the mudflats to assess the ecological wellbeing of this special taiao.

Where: Meet at Stout Cottage, in Pāuatahanui Wildlife Reserve.
No experience needed — we’ll show you what to do on the day, and all equipment will be provided. Just bring your energy, curiosity, and willingness to get a little muddy!

Porirua flood map drop-in sessions
Porirua City Council are holding three drop-in session for flood mapping in Mana and Pukerua Bay. On behalf of Porirua City Council, Wellington Water has created two flood maps to show the impacts of flooding in Mana and Pukerua Bay. These maps will eventually inform Porirua City Council’s District Plan.
To ensure our maps are correct, we’d like to confirm that they match the lived experience of people who live in Porirua and in these neighborhoods.
There will be three community drop-in sessions during the week of 27 October 2025 (more details below):
Tuesday 28 October, 7–9pm – St Barnabas Church, Mana
Thursday 30 October 7–9pm – St Mark’s Church, Pukerua Bay
Saturday 1 November 10am to 12pm – Pātaka Art + Museum
