Kapiti Island Conservation Plan

Introduction

Ngāti Toa and the Department of Conservation (DOC) are partnering on a journey to create a Conservation Management Plan that honors the cultural, environmental, and historical significance of Kapiti Island.

We invite our iwi members and the community to engage in kōrero, share aspirations, and help shape the future stewardship of this precious taonga.

About

The Kapiti Island Conservation Management Plan is a partnership project designed to protect, preserve, and manage Kapiti Island in a way that respects Ngāti Toa’s ancestral connections, kaitiakitanga (guardianship), and the wellbeing of our environment.

This plan will provide a framework for sustainable management, ensuring the island's natural and cultural heritage thrives for future generations.
