Waka Kōrero - Kia Kotahi 2026-2027 | Expressions of Interest
Te Tai o Awatea is pleased to present Waka Kōrero – Kia Kotahi, a te reo Māori immersion programme delivered aboard a traditional waka.
The purpose of this programme is to bring together and nurture te reo Māori among the uri of Te Tai Tonga (Ngāi Tahu, Moriori, Ngāti Mutunga ki Wharekauri, Ngāti Kuia, Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō, Rangitāne, Ngāti Koata, Ngāti Toa Rangatira, Ngāti Rārua, Ngāti Tama, and Te Āti Awa) through structured language immersion, whanaungatanga, mahi ā-tinana, and meaningful connection with our taiao.
Waka Kōrero welcomes participants of all ages and language abilities—from beginners taking their first steps in te reo Māori through to proficient speakers. Tamariki, rangatahi, pakeke, and kaumātua are all encouraged to join, provided they are willing to participate in a gentle immersion environment.
Participants are welcome to register for the full programme or attend whichever Sunday haerenga best suit their availability throughout the year.
Please note that tamariki must be registered separately, and a separate registration form must be completed for each child attending.
