About the Programme

This 13-week programme is designed to tautoko whānau and tauira to successfully complete the NZ Certificate in Emergency Care Level 3.

Delivered in Porirua in partnership with Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira, the programme combines:

  • Classroom-based learning

  • Practical emergency response training

  • A 6-week work placement

Training will be provided by Pro+Med (NZ) Ltd, with coordination led by AWATOA.

Tauira will deepen their mātauranga in hauora, build confidence and capability as first responders, and explore pathways into health-focused employment or further study.

What You’ll Gain

Participants will gain:

  • Practical emergency care and first responder skills

  • Confidence to support whānau and community in emergency situations

  • A recognised NZQA Level 3 qualification

  • A FREE mandatory First Aid course

  • Four pre-study support sessions to help prepare for assessments

  • Real-world experience through a 6-week work placement

  • Support to explore future health workforce or further study pathways

Programme Commitment (Important)

This is a full 13-week programme and requires commitment to:

  • Regular attendance across classroom and practical sessions

  • Participation in all assessments

  • Completion of the 6-week work placement

Tauira must be ready to engage fully and commit to the full duration of the programme.

Who Should Apply?

This opportunity is for tauira who are interested in hauora, emergency care, and first responder skills, and who are motivated to explore future pathways in the health workforce.

No previous experience is required — however, commitment, attendance, and willingness to learn are essential.
