Kaituitui Taiao | Harbour Kaitiaki
UPANE KA UPANE, WHITI TE RA!
Advancing together into a brighter future
Ko wai mātou | About us
Well, it’s not actually about us at all. It’s about the people and communities we serve. Ngāti Toa is a vibrant and influential iwi, firmly grounded in our cultural identity. And we’re paddling our own waka forward in leading significant change in enhancing the mana, wellbeing and prosperity of Ngāti Toa and the communities in which we thrive.
Ko te tīmā | About the team
You will join Mana Taiao at Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira, working across organisational boundaries as a shared resource for the Te Wai Ora o Parirua Harbour Accord partnership. Working alongside iwi, councils, community groups and other partners, you will help turn a collective commitment to a healthier harbour into practical action. The role is based at the Rūnanga in Porirua, with one day each week at Porirua City Council premises.
Ko te tūranga mahi | About the role
As our Kaituitui Taiao | Harbour Kaitiaki, you will build partnerships and coordinate practical shoreline restoration and pollution prevention initiatives that improve the health and resilience of Te Awarua o Porirua. This is a hands-on, community-focused role that combines field work with coordination, planning and administration.
You will help develop and deliver the shoreline restoration work programme, including condition assessments, priority projects and nature-based approaches.
You will also coordinate Harbour Accord pollution prevention activities, raising awareness of pollution sources and delivering targeted behaviour-change campaigns.
Connect partners, businesses and communities to strengthen environmental stewardship and support harbour clean-up initiatives.
Ko ngā wheako ōu | About you
You will bring experience coordinating environmental, restoration, catchment or community-based programmes, and the energy to work alongside Ngāti Toa and our Harbour Accord partners. You know how to bring different people together and turn shared aspirations into action. You will be well practised in:
Experience in undertaking environmental monitoring and sample collection, accurately recording and managing data and analysing and reporting findings to support informed decision making.
Practical environmental restoration, stewardship and community engagement, achieving outcomes through collaboration and influence.
Building productive relationships with community groups, businesses, volunteers and partner organisations.
Facilitation, clear communication, planning and project or programme delivery.
But the thing that will really stand out is your love for the work, the environment, and the people. The Rūnanga is a diverse and inclusive organisation positioned to understand and serve our communities. So you’ll be ready to give your best in the service of others, in areas that matter.
And in return for your hard work, we can offer you:
Work / Life Balance;
Modern environment with friendly team;
Kaimahi centred discounts across banking and wellbeing activities;
Commitment to professional development;
The opportunity to serve our iwi and community aspirations – to be a part of a bigger purpose.
Excited? We are – because we’re up to big things! If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you. Get in touch with Aimee Bishop on Aimee.Bishop@ngatitoa.iwi.nz.
Applications close 3pm, Friday 30th October.
