You will join the Ōhanga leadership team, the economic development and investment arm of Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira, stewarding a diversified portfolio of more than $1 billion across property, managed funds, direct investments, and operating subsidiaries. As the leader of the Whakatupu (Growth) portfolio, you will work alongside your General Manager peers in Property Operations & Asset Management and Iwi Business Services, reporting directly to the Pou Ōhanga, Chief Economic Development & Investment Officer. Our team blends sharp commercial discipline with a deep commitment to the long term prosperity of Ngāti Toa.
Ko te tūranga mahi | About the role
The Kaiwhakatupu, GM Commercial & Investment is responsible for leading the Whakatupu (Growth) Business Portfolio within Pou Ōhanga, driving capital recycling and deployment, capital generation, and commercial performance to advance the long term economic strength of the iwi. You will:
· Lead the asset recycling, investment pipeline, analysis, and capital deployment recommendations, shaping and executing investment and divestment plans that rebalance the portfolio for both present day and intergenerational returns;
· Drive commercial development strategy and delivery, working with the Toa Developments team across the development pipeline and providing senior leadership to the AWATOA creative innovation social enterprise;
· Lead commercial relationship management across the portfolio and subsidiary ecosystem, presenting investment and commercial papers to the Pou Ōhanga, Capital Advisory Forum, Investment Forums (P&I & ARIC), ELT, and the Board.

Well, after hearing about us and about the role, you’ll know whether you’re the right person, and whether now is the right time for you. Your high-level experience and professional expertise in commercial and investment leadership is a given, and you will be excited to engage and learn alongside Ngāti Toa. Of course, you’ll be well practiced with/in
· Stewarding a significant commercial or investment portfolio, with P&L accountability and robust investment analysis, reporting, and forecasting;
· Leading acquisitions, divestments, capital recycling, and debt or capital raising transactions end to end, from origination and due diligence through structuring, negotiation, and completion;
· Leading multi discipline teams and engaging with boards and governance forums, with a genuine commitment to te reo Māori and tikanga in the workplace.
