ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ENABLEMENT LEAD

Kaiarataki Atamai Hangahanga

Fixed-Term Opportunity | Porirua

Artificial Intelligence is changing the way organisations work, make decisions, and deliver services. For Ngāti Toa, the opportunity is significant and so is the responsibility.

We're looking for an experienced and pragmatic AI Enablement Lead to help Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira navigate this emerging space with confidence, discipline, and purpose, in a way that upholds rangatiratanga over our own information, mātauranga, and future direction. This is not a technology implementation role, this is an opportunity to influence how AI is adopted across an iwi organisation committed to protecting its people, data, culture, and future aspirations. You'll work directly with Executive Leadership to identify where AI can genuinely add value, help leaders build confidence and literacy with new tools, and ensure adoption happens in a way that reflects tikanga, sound judgement, and our obligations to uri who come after us.

Data sovereignty is central to this role. As AI tools increasingly draw on data, including te reo Māori, whakapapa, and mātauranga, to train and operate, safeguarding how our information is used isn't a side consideration. It's core to the mahi. We expect this role to be grounded in Māori Data Sovereignty principles (Te Mana Raraunga) and/or the CARE Principles for Indigenous Data Governance, ensuring decisions about AI adoption always sit within a framework of iwi authority and control.

If you're excited by translating AI potential into real-world outcomes, and equally passionate about managing the risks, this is an opportunity to help shape how AI is adopted in a values-led organisation.

MŌ TE RŪNANGA | ABOUT TE RŪNANGA O TOA RANGATIRA

Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira exists to serve Ngāti Toa Rangatira and advance the long-term wellbeing, prosperity, and rangatiratanga of our iwi.

We are a values-driven organisation delivering services and initiatives across a diverse range of kaupapa. Our work spans social, cultural, environmental, educational, and commercial activities, all connected by a shared commitment to creating positive outcomes for current and future generations.

As AI continues to evolve, we have a unique opportunity to harness its benefits while ensuring our approach reflects our values, responsibilities, and obligations to our people.
