Ka Ururoa, Supporting Ngāti Toa Whānau on the Path to Home Ownership
For many whānau, owning a home can feel out of reach. Ka Uruora is an iwi-led programme designed to help change that by supporting Ngāti Toa whānau with the knowledge, skills and confidence to strengthen their financial wellbeing and, ultimately, achieve home ownership.
What is Ka Uruora?
Ka Uruora brings together three key tools that work hand in hand:
Te Uru Ahupūtea – Financial education to build confidence around budgeting, saving, debt management and understanding the home-buying process.
Te Uru Tahua (Whānau Saver) – A savings programme that helps whānau grow their savings towards future goals, including buying a first home.
Te Urunga Kāinga – Housing pathways that can include discounted rentals, rent-to-own and shared home ownership opportunities, depending on eligibility and what's available.
How do you access the programme?
The first step is registering with Ka Uruora and completing the financial education programme. This forms the foundation for accessing future housing opportunities. Throughout the programme, you'll work alongside Ka Uruora facilitators to develop a personalised financial plan that supports your goals.
Is it available online?
Yes. The Te Uru Ahupūtea financial education programme can be completed online, making it easy for whānau to take part from wherever they are. Local Ka Uruora facilitators are also available to provide guidance and support throughout your journey.
Where are the homes?
Housing opportunities become available as developments are completed and may include discounted rentals, rent-to-own and shared home ownership options. Current housing opportunities are available in Te Tauihu only and are offered to eligible Ngāti Toa whānau who have completed the Te Uru Ahupūtea programme.
