AUKATI ki te whaiao is a powerful response to the ongoing impacts of colonisation. For generations, colonisation has shaped and scarred the lives of Ngāti Toa, Māori, Indigenous peoples, and our taiao, disrupting relationships, identity, wellbeing, and the balance of our natural world.
This exhibition delves deeper into those histories — the loss, the resilience, and the enduring strength of our people. It highlights not only the ways in which colonisation has affected us, but also the unwavering determination of Ngāti Toa to reclaim what was disrupted.
