Ko wai mātou | About us

Well, it’s not actually about us at all.  It’s about the people and communities we serve.  Ngāti Toa Rangatira is a vibrant and influential iwi, firmly grounded in our cultural identity.  And we’ve been paddling our own waka for a while now leading significant change in enhancing the mana, wellbeing and prosperity of Ngāti Toa Rangatira and the communities in which we thrive.

We not only look after our communities, but we also look after our kaimahi and have a range of benefits including a commitment to professional development with opportunities to move around our organisation, alongside many kaimahi benefits that support your health and well-being.

Ko te tūranga mahi | About the role

A Kaiwhakapūmau supports the day-to-day management of the supported accommodation for tāne, supporting tāne that have been released from prison or are living in the community.

Responsibilities include:

·       Build and maintain healthy relationships with tāne

·       Accompany tāne to various activities

·       Plan activities/programmes in line with their transition plan

·       Support tāne in reaching their Mauriora aspirations

·       Support operational administration

·       Identify risks, escalate and propose appropriate action.

This role is managed through rostered shifts covering 24/7.  Availability to complete overnight shifts and weekends is required.

About the team

Based within Te Whare Whakaruruhau o Raumanuka in Naenae, the team are passionate about ‘lifting’ and supporting tāne to achieve their moemoea.  As lived practitioners of te ao Māori we are guided by the teachings of our ancestors and the tikanga and kawa of our two iwi, Ngāti Toa Rangatira and Te Āti Awa.  We use our Māori world view to sustain the mana and integrity of our kaupapa through wānanga which in turn provides the taane with the environment to safely navigate their journey.  We’re not going to lie; it gets uncomfortable in what we do.  But we work hard to get comfortable so we can learn from the experiences and be better prepared when we get uncomfortable again!

About you

You know you better than anyone else.  That’s a definite given.  You’ll know whether you’re the right person for this role and whether now is the right time for you.  Your high-level experience and professional expertise in supporting people that face challenges is a given.  Of course, you’ll be well practiced with being able to demonstrate a Kaupapa Māori approach to your mahi and can demonstrate an ability to work in a warm and engaging manner whilst maintaining boundaries and professionalism.

But the thing that will really stand out is your love for our mahi, and the people.  Will this role get you out of bed every day come to work!  We certainly hope so!  The Rūnanga is a diverse and inclusive organisation positioned to understand and serve our communities.

And in return for your hard work, we can offer you:

·       Work / Life Balance.

·       Modern environment with friendly team.

·       Kaimahi centred discounts across banking and wellbeing activities.

·       Commitment to professional development.

·       The opportunity to serve our iwi and community aspirations – to be a part of a bigger purpose.

If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!  Get in touch with Wiremu on 027 786 8642 for a chat!
