Ngāti Toa Rangatira launches waiata resource to drive reo Māori revitalisation
Ngāti Toa Rangatira has released a powerful new waiata learning resource — six original songs performed and recorded by rangatahi of Ngāti Toa. Created by Ngāti Toa uri, this resource includes kupu, actions, and audio tracks to make learning accessible for our iwi members and targeted audiences, as well as the wider community.

Composed over many years at hui rangatahi, and inspired by iwi kaupapa, kōrero tuku iho, and significant historical events, these waiata celebrate our identity, connect generations, and carry our reo into the future.
The project is a step forward in realising the 100 year vision of the Ngāti Toa te reo Māori revitalisation strategy - Te Reo Manawataki o Ngāti Toa Rangatira, which states that “by 2040, te reo Māori will be the language most often used in at least 50% of all Ngāti Toa households”.
The first viewing and listening of this resource is officially launched to iwi first then to the wider public on Friday 19th, Mahuru.
