UPANE KA UPANE, WHITI TE RA!
Advancing together into a brighter future

 Ko wai mātou | About us

Well, it’s not actually about us at all.  It’s about the people and communities we serve.  Ngāti Toa is a vibrant and influential iwi, firmly grounded in our cultural identity.  And we’re paddling our own waka forward in leading significant change in enhancing the mana, wellbeing and prosperity of Ngāti Toa and the communities in which we thrive.

Ko te tīmā | About the team

You’ll be joining the Finance team under the Manaaki | Corporate Services Group, a close-knit and collaborative rōpū that provides the financial and operational backbone of our organisation. We value accuracy, integrity, and a solutions-focused mindset. This is a supportive environment where kaimahi work together to lift each other’s capability while making a real difference for our iwi and communities.

Ko te tūranga mahi | About the role

The Financial Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the integrity of our financial reporting and compliance. You’ll work alongside the Group Financial Controller to deliver statutory accounts, support tax compliance, and maintain strong financial processes and systems.

Your responsibilities will include:

·       Preparing draft statutory accounts, audit papers, and accurate disclosures for assigned entities.

·       Managing the general ledger, reconciliations, and month-end processes.

·       Preparing tax returns and compliance reports, ensuring deadlines are met.

·       Upholding and improving the financial control environment and cashflow management.

·       Mentoring and supporting the Accounts team, sharing your knowledge and expertise.

·       External compliance reporting.

This is a role where your skills will directly contribute to the sustainability and prosperity of Ngāti Toa.

Ko ngā wheako ōu | About you

After hearing about us and about the role, you’ll know whether you’re the right person, and whether now is the right time for you. You will bring:

A relevant tertiary qualification in accounting, ideally CAANZ qualified or working towards it.

·       Proven experience in financial accounting and tax compliance, ideally in a large or complex organisation.

·       Strong technical accounting skills, with knowledge of PBE IPSAS, GAAP, and relevant legislation.

·       Working knowledge of ERP systems (preferably Microsoft Business Central) and advanced Excel/analytical skills.

·       Attention to detail, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to build strong relationships.

·       Previous experience with external audit is desirable.

But what will really make you stand out is your integrity, adaptability, and commitment to serving others. You’ll enjoy working in a team environment, be proactive in problem-solving, and take pride in the accuracy and quality of your work.

And in return for your hard work, we can offer you:

·       Work / Life Balance;

·       Modern environment with friendly team;

·       Kaimahi centred discounts across banking and wellbeing activities;

·       Commitment to professional development;

·       The opportunity to serve our iwi and community aspirations – to be a part of a bigger purpose.
