TOI RANGATIRA

Kia rapahoe te uru, anō he matimati nō Tangaroa ā te Toi.

We plunge the steering paddle of our waka into the sea to become the creative fingers of Tangaroa.

Kia ora Koutou,

Check out our latest pānui here:

These pānui are to inform you of upcoming events, opportunities and progress we are making to forward our mahi as ringa toi, remembering that no matter where we are on the journey of creativity, we all have valuable contributions to make.

Whāia te pae tawhiti kia tata, whakamaua te pae tata kia tina!
Pursue your aspirations, bring them close, consolidate them, bring them to life.

We have whakairo classes about to start, please fill out the registration form if you are keen to attend these classes. There are limited spaces, so those registering need to be committed to a year of mahi whakairo.

Students will have the opportunity to buy their chisels, paying a small amount each week until they are paid off. They can also buy a set outright. Students will also have the opportunity to practice out of class time at the workshop but will not be able to take their chisels home unless they are paid for in full.

Classes are now FULL

HE KŌRERO WHAKAKAPI

Ko Ngāti Toarangatira, he iwi Toi Rangatira! This month we are highlighting some work by our Ngāti Toa whānaunga, Margiana Cullinan.

Nā Margiana

Just a little bit about my art background. I did 2 years at Whitireia Polytechnic and gained a Certificate in Visual Arts 1996 and Craft Design in 1997. I had two Tutors who inspired me, Owen Mapp my carving tutor and Wi Taepa who taught clay.

I've worked for a few months at Wētā Studio on the set of King Kong as a special effects makeup and hair technician...great experience. Last year I built my art studio where I spend most of my spare time (when not at work) creating jewelry. I absolutely love to carve and have taught myself how to silversmith.

If you would like your mahi toi showcased please email toirangatira@ngatitoa.iwi.nz
