<p>Tēnā koutou katoa e ngā whānau whānui o Ngāti Toa Rangatira puta noa i te motu.  He karere tēnei ki a koutou.</p>
<p>The Runanga is currently seeking ideas from iwi members for concepts and themes for a Ngati Toa iwi exhibition that will open at Te Papa in 2014 and run for 2 years.</p>
<p>No concept or theme will be too big or too small and we value the ideas that you will send through to us.  An example of a theme could be people, taonga, our heke and so much more.  We have a creative iwi and we know that the perfect theme is out there we just need you to help us realize it!</p>
<p>This is the first step in this journey and there will be more opportunities to participate.  Keep watching for panui.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Hauora Maori Scholarships 2012 now  open</p>
<p>Associate Health Minister Hon.  Tariana Turia has announced that the Hauora Maori Scholarships 2012 are now open  for applications from Maori students seeking support to either start or finish  their studies in health related courses.</p>
<p>“These scholarships have been  established to support Maori to enter into health related fields of study, while  also recognising their contribution to their community,” said Hon.  Turia.</p>
<p>“They are funded through the Maori  Provider Development Scheme to achieve greater participation by Maori in the  health and disability workforce, ensuring the delivery of health services  relevant and culturally appropriate for Maori.”</p>
<p>Students can apply under one of the  eleven categories; Community Health Workers, Dieticians, Dentistry, Health  Management, Medicine, Midwifery, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Postgraduate  and Undergraduate.</p>
<p>&#8220;Our Maori health workforce is  facing great pressure and I am pleased that this new putea will help to start  meeting the demand&#8221; said Hon. Turia.</p>
<p>“As part of the Hauora Māori  Scholarships, one Excellence Award is granted in each category and two  scholarships for each of the John McLeod and Te Apa Mareikura  awards.”</p>
<p>Applications can be completed online  via the Ministry’s Māori Health website (<a title="blocked::http://www.maorihealth.govt.nz/" href="http://www.maorihealth.govt.nz/" target="_blank">http://www.maorihealth.govt.nz</a>) from 28 February to 6 April  2012.</p>
<p>The Ministry of Health receives over  800 applications each year for the Hauora Māori Scholarships.  The scholarships  are open to any student who:</p>
<ul>
<li>is enrolled and attending a  University , Polytechnic, Wananga or College of Education</li>
<li>is studying a health related, NZQA  accredited course</li>
<li>can demonstrate a commitment to  and/or competence in Māori health and well-being studies</li>
<li>has whakapapa and/or cultural links  with te ao Māori or Māori communities.</li>
</ul>
<p>Students may apply only <strong><em>once a year</em></strong>, and in  <strong><em>one  category</em></strong>.</p>

<p>The results for the 2012 Runanga Board Election have now been declared.  </p>
<p>We would like to take this time to acknowledge our retiring Chair, Riki WiNeera for the contribution he has made to the Runanga and iwi over the past 4 years.  In his role as Chair Riki has been party to the signing of the Aquaculture Settlement and our History Treaty Claims, Agreement in Principle.</p>
<p>We would also like to thank the members of the Board who have retired as part of this rotation process, Hyrum Parata and Te Ariki WiNeera.  They have been committed members of the Runanga over the period of time they have served.  </p>
<p>Thank you to all those that stood for the positions of the iwi elected representatives.</p>

<p>We are back on board for 2012 and the staff here at the Runanga are looking forward to keeping you informed of iwi events and business as they arise.</p>
<p>We have a few panui to kick off the year so please note dates and times and we ask you to share these panui with whanau that may not have email access.</p>
<p><strong>Moteatea – Te hui tuatahi</strong></p>
<p>Moteatea will commence on Tuesday 31st January</p>
<p>Whare tupuna – Takapuwahia Marae</p>
<p>6.30 – 8pm each Tuesday</p>
<p><strong>Waitangi Day 6th February – Paekakariki</strong></p>
<p>Waitangi Day will be hosted in Paekakariki at Campbell Park (down by the Camp Grounds).</p>
<p>A powhiri will commence at 10am and we ask Ngati Toa whanau to be part of the powhiri.</p>
<p>There will be entertainment for all ages, kai, crafts, kapa haka, and fingers crossed Ta moko by Taryn Beri.</p>
<p><strong>Iwi voting</strong></p>
<p>Reminder that voting for the Runanga Board Member candidates is now open and votes can be caste via post or online.</p>
<p>Voting closes on the 22nd February via post and online and 23rd February in person at the Runanga.</p>

<p><strong>Whitireia Park Summer Walk</strong></p>
<p>The Runanga in partnership with Greater Wellington Regional Council will be hosting a guided walk of Whitireia Park.  Come and listen to the korero about Kupe, Ngati Toa and the history behind Whitireia.  A great hikoi for the whanau.</p>
<p>This hikoi starts from the top carpark at 6.15pm on Thursday 16th Febraury.</p>
