He Kupu Reanga o Ngāti Koata wishes to extend an invitation to all iwi of Te Tauihu o te Waka o Māui to be part of Te Ipukarea Inter-Iwi Sports Day 2017, on Saturday 9 December.
There will be:
- Basketball - Tamariki, Women, Men
- Touch Rugby - Tamariki, Women, Men
- Netball - Tamariki, Adults Mixed
We are excited for what promises to be a funfilled day of whanaungatanga, laughter, bantering and ’friendly competitive’ iwi rivalry in the form of sports.
PŌWHIRI will be held for participating teams, representatives and supporters on Friday 8th December, 6pm, at Whakatū Marae. This will be followed by dinner and team registrations from 7pm – 8pm in Mauri Ora. Whilst we are aware that some teams may not arrive until game day, it would be appreciated if a representative from each team would attend pōwhiri, and to receive any last-minute instructions and information there may be.
ACCOMMODATION at the marae is available from Friday to Sunday for iwi and teams travelling in for this event. Please contact Hayley Pemberton if you wish to book in. There will be a small fee ($10.00pp, tamariki U10yrs free) to assist with catering and other associated costs but Hayley will work through this with you.
REGISTRATIONS: Please register your teams by filling our the registration forms, which can be downloaded by clicking on this link.
REGISTRATION FEES have been set at $300.00. Iwi may enter a maximum of 2 teams per sport/grade. Please have cheques made out to: He Kupu Reanga | ASB bank 12-3165-0037235-00 REF: [your iwi name].
WHAT TO BRING: We encourage teams and supporters to pack a big harty lunch and snacks for Saturday as the day is set to be long, with a lot of sweating and running. He Kupu Reanga will have a ‘tōtiti me te parāoa’ (sausage on bread) for players and supporters, and water stations set up around the venue.
As part of iwi and teams ‘What to Bring’ lists, you may want to pack marquee’s and gazebo’s for those outside games and break times. We will have official’s tents and some shading for kaumātua, and sunscreen on the go to aid in avoiding burnt bodies and sunstroke. We encourage iwi banners to fly high throughout the day.
NGĀ WHAKARITENGA: Our ‘Officials’ who will receive all team registrations. It is their responsibility to manage the game draws and time.
Schedules, make sure our referees are in place, answer any questions pertaining to their respective area/sport, and also manage any protests – conflict & resolution.
Following sports, we will return to Whakatū Marae for hākari and presentations. Concluding, we would hope that another of our Te Tauihu iwi may choose to ‘hikina te mauri’ for the next Te Ipukarea.
Team registrations close on Wednesday 29th November and registration payments to be confirmed by Friday 1st December.
We have created a Facebook communications page called 'TE IPUKAREA Te Tauihu o te Waka a Māui'. We will post up files relating to the kaupapa i.e. registration forms, games rules, information regarding times, any changes in itinerary etc. Please encourage your team contacts to add themselves onto the page to stay up to date.
